Thanks for that notification, YoKenny1, just spotted it a few moments ago. Update downloaded & installed without a problem. Out of curiosity how many of the 8 'providers' do you keep running?

Thanks for the info. Though I am not using avast at present, in my desktop, I have a soft corner for this prog.
I will download it for my laptop.

Heard that ver. 5.0 is going to come out soon.

I only use 5 on Windows 7:
Instant Messaging, Internet Mail, Network Shield, Standard Shield, and Web Shield

6 on XP Pro adds Script Blocking as it is not needed with IE Protected Mode.

V5 is in limited beta right now and sheduled for November release.

That's interesting; I use only 2 on Vista: the Network and Web Shields, plus MBAM's protection module running. I run a customized on-demand scan every one to two weeks (I have configured several customized scans with Avast) and do manual updates for both Avast and MBAM.

Have to say absolutely nothing gets through that combination of Avast & MBAM and the nice thing is they play ball together very nicely indeed. Not had a single conflict issue ever; indeed I've not had a single infection successfully penetrate this year. Mind you other factors have a bearing too - keeping windows updated with the latest security updates, not browsing / using warez/keygen sites and the like etc. You know the score...

I'm intrigued to know how closely the list of sites that Avast's Network shield uses matches MBAM's list of blocked IPs.

Wouldn't a discussion about avast! usage be better over in General Chat and leave Security Software Updates for update announcements?

I hope that it will not be inundated about cats or favorite ice cream though.

Yep, you're right, YoKenny. Taken notice.
