If a person is willing, I try to work through a problem to its end. That way, not only do you avoid a reformat (which can be a real pain), but it also helps me to discover the solution to yet another elusive Windows problem so that next time it pops up for someone else I'll have a "quick fix" for it (assuming we find a solution to your problem)

Download the attached zip file, extract the reg file from it and double click it to run it. Click Continue at the User Account Control prompt and Yes and Ok to the subsequent prompts. Reboot once that's done and try updating again.

Alright, that sounds like a permissions issue. Please download the Microsoft Fix it tool on this page and save it to your desktop and install it and allow it to reset your permissions, then try double clicking the reg file you downloaded previously once more and then reboot to see if it fixes it.
Note: If you have any Limited user accounts on that PC they will no longer appear on the login screen, you will need to read the info on the page containing the Fix it tool and follow the steps detailed to correct it. -------------------- |

. Is this the same system you posted about here? If it is, then I'd highly recommend you send a PM to AdvancedSetup and ask him to reopen the topic. He will be able to use tools and resources that I cannot to get your system fixed.Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you. Good luck .
